What is the Role?
As a Permanent Way Associate Director, you will be responsible for both line management and project management associated with the permanent way engineering team based in York. You will also be a member of the coordinated management unit responsible for winning and delivering rail projects, and with particular responsibility for those with sole or dominant permanent way content, including strategic, feasibility, specification, and scheme and detailed design content.

The key elements of the role are summarised below;
Business Development:
Develop and implement a robust client relationship management programme for the York client base.
Leadership & Team Working:
Responsible for planning and preparation of deliverables for the Permanent Way team.
Business Delivery:
§ Understand and apply effective project management principles. Shall manage business risk and working capital.
Staff Retention & Recruitment:
§ Be active in the recruitment and retention of staff. Shall positively sell the company at all times,
Health & Safety:
Ensure that health & safety awareness and training is maintained for self and team to the appropriate levels.
Who are the likely candidates?
§ Civil or Structural Engineering degree preferred, however OND/HND in Civil Engineering qualification would be considered with sufficient experience.
§ Working towards IEng, CEng, MICE
What Skills do I need?
Experience within a Consultancy or Contractor, primarily focused on design within the Rail industry. The position would be suitable for a Principal Engineer looking to advance their career in a design consultancy or an Associate equivalent.
§ Demonstrate technical expertise in the areas of permanent way engineering.
§ Expert knowledge of Permanent Way design including plain line and S&C components, plain line and S&C geometry, and Permanent Way maths
§ Initial scheme development for mainline feasibility studies, depots and sidings.
§ Understanding of the Network Rail’s GRIP procedures and preparation of GRIP reports
§ Writing Risk Assessments for all aspects of track design and associated infrastructure
§ Attending IDC meetings
§ Able to check and approve designs
§ Encourage knowledge sharing,
§ Be responsible for overall technical control of permanent way projects and play a leading coordinating role for multi disciplinary projects
§ Act as technical ambassador for the Business Unit where appropriate.
