What is the Role?

As a Bridge Design Engineer you will be included in all design projects, including railway and highway bridges. You will be working in a Quality Assured environment, and will be required to produce technical results. In order to ensure that these results are precise, you will be required to use structural analysis packages, such as AutoCAD.

Another aspect of this role involves writing up proposals and drafting detailed reports for the inspection and assessment of bridges and structures. You will be dealing with many people, including junior team members, who you will be expected to mentor, and contractors, whose questions you will be required to answer.

You will be included in site progress meetings, where you will need to be able to communicate well the progress of each project, when compared with the business strategy created.

The Bridges Division, within the Transportation team, has be winning many industrial and high profile projects, both nationally and internationally. The organization has therefore decided to expand the division, and you will be part of, and involved in, this expansion.

Who are the likely candidates?

A likely candidate will have a strong academic background. You will need to be approaching, or have achieved chartered status and be able to show a technical ability in all areas of Bridge Engineering, including pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete bridges.

You will need to be able to communicate well, including the ability to write in-depth and technically correct reports. You will need strong IT skills, including AutoCAD and bridge engineering software.

There will be an element of project management involved in this vacancy, and therefore a likely candidate will be able to show the ability to work well in a multi-project environment.

Those candidates who can show international experience, on top of their UK experience, and also show business development knowledge will be favoured.

What Skills do I need?

· Achieved chartered status
· Strong academic background
· Experience in bridge engineering – including pre-stressed and post-tension concrete bridges.
· Ability to liaise with clients
· Ability to use bridge engineering software
· AutoCAD
· Business Development experience favoured
· International experience favoured
