What is the Role?
As a Bridge Engineer, you will be involved in the Engineering team based in Leeds. You will be working on the design of bridges within both the highway and rail sector. You will need to be able to work alongside a team of bridge engineers and oversee the work of technicians, throughout the full lifecycle of each project. This includes from the feasibility and assessment stage, through to detailed design and strengthening.
Communication is an essential need for this position, both verbal and written, as you will be working within a multi-disciplinary project team, as well as overseeing work of Junior Technicians and reporting to a senior engineer/team leader.
Currently the Leeds branch are working on the inspection and assessment of a range for structures within Northern Ireland, using a BDFO Package for Highway Management Ltd. This project covers over 200 structures, including concrete beams and slab bridges.
The Leeds team are also working on the feasibility of a 65-metre span steel arch bridge, over the River Don.
Other Highway related projects include the management of near 400 structures for RMS. This involves inspection and maintenance work on a variety of structures, including multi-level interchanges, as well as steel sign gantries.
This Role also includes work within the rail sector; the Leeds team currently commissioned by Network rail, working on the design and checking of Bridges in Newcastle, Basingstoke and Swindon.

Who are the likely candidates?
A likely candidate will have a strong academic background. Candidates who can show workable progression towards achieving chartered status will be favoured.
You will need to have a minimum of 2 years UK based experience in the Bridge design, preferably covering the materials steel, reinforced and/or pre-stressed concrete.
The ability to communicate at a high technical level is a key aspect of this position.
