What is the Role?

As a Senior Structural Engineer you will be involved in growing a team based in Birmingham. You will be required to lead a team of engineers and manage their requirements, as well as undertaking technical work. This will include the creation of preliminary and detailed design, as well as scheme drawings for each level of the designing process. Another aspect of this position will include analysis, which will be done through computer-based models, as well as manual methods.
The majority of projects done in the Birmingham office are highways based and you will be included in the creation of structural calculations, from feasibility through to detailed design. You will need to be able to create these designs in accordance with BS5400, and other Advise Notes and DTp Bridge Directives.
On site work will also be required, during which you will be required undertake inspections and assessments.
The managerial aspect of the work will include acting as a Project Manager, Activity Manager, Designer/Checker and overall supervising others. You will also be involved in the ICE Training done by the graduate engineers.

Who are the likely candidates?

A likely candidate will have a strong academic background and be able to have achieved chartered status. You will need previous UK based experience in the design of Highway structures and bridges. This should include experience of inspection, as well as knowledge of DMRB standards. Likely candidates will also have previous experience with AutoCAD, and be able to work well within a team, and lead technicians. Working in a team will require the individual to have good communication skills.
