What is the Role?

As a Chartered Bridge Design Engineer, you will be leading a team of junior engineers and technicians. This particular branch has recently recruited many junior level staff, and is now keen to recruit more Chartered engineers with the ability to mentor and lead a team of over 20. Running a team involves much managerial responsibilities, however you will also be involved in the technical side, and will be required to take an active part in the design of projects.

The project that you will be required to manage and take an active part in will include both rail and highway bridges and structures. A current project that the company are working on is the design of an airport link bridge in Dublin. The company’s Bridge design team are award winning and due to an unusual ‘gap’ within their current structure; a Chartered level vacancy has become available.

Who are the likely candidates?

A likely candidate will have achieved chartered status, or have the ability to show workable progress towards achieving this. A minimum of 5 years experience in the detailed design of bridges will be needed, within a UK consultancy. This UK based experience should include the bridge design within the rail and highway sectors. You should also have a good understanding of Highway Agency standards, and be able to show practical use of concrete and steel codes, and design tools, such as AutoCAD and Lusas.

You will be involved in all aspects of the project life cycle and should therefore have experience from feasibility through to detail design.

Team leading will be a big part of this role, and a likely candidate will be able to show previous experience managing, motivating and developing a team.
