What is the Role?
This is a NEW exciting position for an experienced Rail professional to initiate, develop and manage a new Civil and Structural Engineering. You will be responsible for recruiting a new team and leading them to create a new division on the Civil and Structures department. As well as developing and managing your team on a day to day basis you will have technical responsibility for the design and assessment of Bridges and other Structures on Railway projects. You will be involved in marketing activities and generating new business for your new team members.
You will report directly to the Head of Civil Engineering. You will interact with other managers within the company and will assist in the overall management and business planning of the organization.
You, the applicant will be working for one of the UK’s top 10 Engineering consultancies that has a well-earned reputation in Civil and Structural Engineering, they have considerable skills in railway bridges, stations and other civil engineering works in a railway environment. They undertake feasibility studies, scheme designs, bid preparations and detailed designs for all types of railway structures on a UK and International level.
Detail of Responsibilities:
· Civil & Structural Engineering Manager
· “Responsible for the initiation, development, management and continued growth of new team in Birmingham”
· Design and assessment of bridges and other structures
· Involvement in marketing and generating new business
· The management of projects to completion
· Responsible for the “technical accuracy of design output”

Who are the likely candidates?
As a likely candidate you will have previous experience in leading and developing a team of professionals within the bridge and structures, civil division. You will have the ability to lead and support design teams and interface with other disciplines. It would also be an advantage if you have held a similar position in an engineering consultancy or hold a large amount of the core skills required. You should also have experience in winning and successfully managing large projects.
What Skills do I need?
You will ideally have some of the following skills and experiences, these are not all essential however if you can demonstrate a good amount of these you will be considered and highly thought of for this desirable position.
· Proven team leader / people manager
· Educated to degree level or equivalent
· General railway and civil engineering experience
· Proven experience in bridge design and assessment ideally involving railway bridges
· Experience of “structural analysis software”
· Strong commercial awareness
· Good project management experience
· Display “creativity and problem solving ability in approach to management and assignments”
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
