Job Description
To undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within the jobholder’s ability and competence.
To work at any position within a project team to achieve the project objectives.
To supervise and check the work of junior staff
When required, to undertake the roles of Project Manager, Activity Manager, Designer or Checker as defined in the Quality Manual and the competency appraisal processes.
Requirements
BEng or equivalent or HNC/HND CEng or IEng is desirable, but additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu.
Relevant post-graduate experience in the design of bridge and/or building structures, plus a good knowledge of civil engineering practice.
Previous experience in the rail industry and knowledge of railways standards is desirable.
Competent to work unsupervised and to supervise others; competent to check the work of others.
The jobholder should be thoroughly conversant with MS Office suite and familiar with the use of structural analysis software (SuperSTRESS, ASAS and Archie) and Project Management software (P3, Suretrack or MS Project).
The jobholder should also be familiar with production of drawings using AutoCAD.
Responsibilities
Preparation of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options
Preparation and checking of feasibility studies, technical reports and other written documents
Preparation and checking of design calculations, structural analysis
Production and checking of design concepts, design details, drawings specifications and other technical documents
Management of teams of engineers and external suppliers
Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances
Training and development
Client and third party liaison
Representing the company on technical matters
Marketing and business development
