What is the Role?
We have an opening in the Rail Design Management team for an Assistant Project Manager to join a small team responsible for management and co-ordination of multi-disciplinary design teams based throughout UK. The team continues to grow rapidly and offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate to work within the Rail sector and build upon recent project successes.
The role involves management of rail sector projects with the support of senior managers in the Rail team. This involves liaison, co-ordination and management of the design team, sub-consultants and suppliers.
You should have a sound technical background and ability in the management of design teams and although beneficial, does not necessarily need to have experience in the Rail sector.
Recent projects for our client include:
• Paddington Span 4 Barrel Roof Refurbishment, Network Rail (£25M)
• East London Line Automatic Ticket Gating, Southern (£2M)
• Multi-storey Car Parks, South West Trains (£20M)
• Step Free Access Programme, Network Rail (£50M)
The successful candidate is likely to be involved in one or more of the above.
Principal Accountabilities;
• Commercial/financial management of projects
• Project reporting to Project Manager/Director.
• Preparation and updating of project schedules and project quality plans.
• Preparation and reviewing of project health and safety plans and risk assessments
• Developing positive professional relationship with client and team leaders
• Identifying and acting on, or refer, potential risks and issues.
• Participating in meetings, disseminating information within the team, and
communicating with other teams in WSP.
• Providing assistance in securing repeat or new business opportunities and assisting in
preparing proposals for new rail projects.
• Deputising for team leader
Who are the likely candidates?
The rail team provides leading services the following areas, you should have experience in some of the following:
• Design Management / System Integration
• Structural Inspection & Assessment
• Bridge Design – new & strengthening (D&B )
• Station Design – buildings, canopies, ramps, lift shafts and platform extensions
• Station Systems Design – electrical, comms – incl CCTV,PAVA,PIS
• Permanent Way design – alignment, track, drainage, trackform
• Earthworks design new and strengthening
• Signalling, Comms & Electrification
What Skills do I need?
• Degree
• CEng or approaching
• PRINCE 2 or similar Project Management qualification would be beneficial but not
essential
