What is the Role?
We have an urgent vacancy working within a busy Bridge Design team within an established Rail business, the position is to be based from their Croydon office however will include some travel. You will be responsible for managing a small team of designers whilst dealing with the day- to-day management of projects.
Responsibilities include;
· Responsibility of delivering up to 10 projects concurrently to time and to budget
· Daily management of projects reporting to Project Manager
· Responsible for managing a small team of up to 5 individuals
· Liaison with other members of project teams both internal and external
· Detailed Design and Design Management from inception to completion
· Supervising and managing assistant engineers and technicians
· Liaise with internal and external sub contractors
· Involvement with cost management, tenders, invoicing of projects
· Circa 75% of time will be spent on Design and will include planning and undertaking survey works on site.
· Client presentations

Who are the likely candidates?
· Chartered or near chartered status.
· Degree Qualified
· Professionally qualified Chartered Civil Engineer/completion of training scheme.
· They should have a proven track record of producing detailed designs including calculations and supervision of production of drawings.
· Experience within a consulting background
· Sufficient engineering experience, with a large proportion of this within a rail environment
· Ideally personnel management and project management experience
· Good design experience. Steel, concrete and composite design essential. Solid foundations design experience preferred.

What Skills do I need?
The successful applicant should be able to:
· Lead a team of engineers.
· Work without supervision,
· The candidate must be capable of taking a hands-on approach to design and technical coaching of junior staff.
· To produce neat clear calculations in a structured format.
· Translate designs into engineering drawings, schedules and current specifications
· The ability to manage client interfaces on a day to day basis.
· Working knowledge of Railway Standards
· Excellent communication skills
· Sound IT skills
