My client has a century-long history of successful development in the wide sphere of railway engineering and undertakes a wide variety of uni and multi-functional rail projects across the UK. They are currently recruiting for a Contractors Responsible Engineer (Civils), to be based in London, working on sites at West Croydon, Crystal Palace & South Croydon.
Purpose of job
Manage the Engineering activities associated with the Civils aspects of the project acting as Contract Responsible Engineer.
Project overview
Infrastructure construction activities as part of a major Overground Railway construction project.
The West Croydon, Crystal Palace & South Croydon Work comprises the provision of:
• New island platform & platform extensions
• Various civils work including the provision of a new mess and rest room.
• P/Way Plain line & renewals
• Track, foul and surface water drainage
• New, replacement and relocation of signalling & modifications to interlocking & SCC panels
• New and modified telephone concentrators, CCTV, DOO & DNO works
• Cable, troughing and UTX works
• Points heaters and power supplies
• 2 No new MIP lifts and associated shafts
Key accountabilities
• Contract Responsible Engineer : The person within Civil engineering design and/or construction organisation with responsibility for the day to day management and coordination of the technical activities.
• Ensure all aspects of the detailed civils design are developed to programme & budget.
• Produce, agree and manage, with all relevant parties, a realistic civils design programme and information required schedule to satisfy design, procurement and construction requirements.
• Manage the Design on site, with the assistance of other site-based resource, by implementing the Design management plan to ensure the timely production of information is issued.
• Ensure that all Design deliverables are reviewed to establish they are within budget, are fully coordinated and are buildable.
• Review the Design with respect to mitigating Health and Safety issues prior to construction.
• Ensure the Project team are working to the agreed Contractors Proposals.
• Provide guidance to the Project team on Design related issues.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
• Minimum of HNC/Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Experience of Microstation CAD package desirable.
• Experience of civils design within a railway environment and advantage.
