Design Engineer – Ref BB-DESENG627-MT
One of the country's leading civils contractor, they design and construct foundations for all types of buildings, structures and civil engineering works. Extensive experience of piling techniques, in addition to diaphragm walling and ground improvement utilising environmental techniques.
A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Design Engineer within the Glasgow area reporting to the Design Manager.
Key Tasks/Responsibilities:
•Prepare foundation designs for tenders and contracts
•Respond to technical queries from site
•Check designs prepared by other designers
•Assist in training graduate engineers
•Provide clients with the best technical solutions
•Liaise with Estimators and Contracts Engineers
•Attend technical meetings with clients
•Attend technical meetings at ICE, FPS, seminars and conferences
•Prepare and present articles and papers on technical issues
•Assist with technical development and innovation
•Interpret Site Investigation Reports to select appropriate design parameters
Skills Required - Essential:
•High degree of numeracy and accuracy
•Good communicator
•Focused on the business aims and targets
•Experienced in using geotechnical programs and Microsoft Office software
•Good time management skills
•Sound engineering knowledge
Skills Required - Desirable:
•Good presentation skills
•Good knowledge of piling techniques
•Good knowledge of structural design
•Some understanding of the effects of piling on surrounding buildings
Education and/or experience - Essential:
•Proven experience of foundation design
•Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology
Education and/or experience - Desirable:
•MSc in Soil Mechanics
•Experience with both contractor and consultant
•Chartered Engineer CEng
Working arrangements: Occasional visits to regional offices /sites.
Normal working hours: 37.5 hours per week – Monday - Friday
