JOB PROFILE
This project is charged with increasing the capacity of the 800 km iron-ore heavy rail line from 37 million to 91 million tonnes per annum with further scope anticipated with project developments. The objective of this project is to assist in the enhancement of South Africa’s GDP and its capability to expand and develop its domestic and international trade presence.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Rail Systems Integration Manager is responsible for ensuring rail systems integration is implemented across the project.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Plan and organise with others the execution of railway systems integration activities, including
• Railway System Requirements Management;
• Technical and human factors interface management;
• System Architecture Management;
• Configuration & Engineering Change Control Management.
• Maintain an ongoing working relationship with other lead engineers, engineering managers and the Area Managers.
• Development of rail systems integration plan
• Setting up and managing a requirements database
• Participating in systems requirements reviews and hazard workshops
• Developing and maintaining the overall Railways Systems Architecture
• Facilitating systems engineering/integration audits
• Participating in system level design review.
• Maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of the respective discipline engineering work.
• Transfer skills to junior engineers
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate(s) will be highly integrated into the management and success of specific projects and of the whole project function. It is essential that that any individual is capable of establishing credible relations with the client, senior project personnel and site personnel quickly.
• A willingness and capability to remain on this project for >2 years.
• The candidate should have an Engineering Degree (or equivalent) and have several years experience and a professional qualification..
• Experience in Railway Systems engineering and integration design/consultancy ideally within a similar large engineering or multi-disciplinary project is essential for any applicant.
• An understanding and appreciated of the complexities of a large multi-disciplinary project and how this can/will impact engineering design functions.
• A willingness and drive to develop and enhance your engineering experience and skill set.
• The candidate should have excellent attention to detail, good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
• The individual should be a team player although capable of working autonomously.
• Capability to report and produce status reviews for senior colleagues with experience.
