JOB PROFILE
This career opportunity will be working on one of the largest multi-million pound rail and port expansion projects in the world; the scope of the entire project encompasses engineering, procurement, project management and construction management amongst many others. This project is charged with increasing the capacity of the 800 km iron-ore heavy rail line from 37 million to 91 million tonnes per annum with further scope anticipated with project developments.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Construction Manager is responsible for the Overall responsibility for the coordinating of all construction activities for the Ore-Line of the Transnet project thus involving a integral interaction with the project’s dynamics and functions. The role will be working on a range of heavy civil engineering, project and staff management as necessary from the project’s requirements.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
● Liaise with the design team, client or others if necessary to resolve discrepancies during the construction of the project work.
● Arrange measurement of progress on all contracts for reporting and progress claim purposes.
● Overall responsibility for the coordinating of all construction activities in compliance with the project manager and programme construction manager’s instructions.
● Ensure adherence to all statutory requirements affecting the project site.
● Review construction/erection drawings and specifications prepared for the project, develop strategies for erection interfaces and pre-empt problem areas.
● Maintains client relationship and is the primary contact for clients communication with the field activities.
● Supporting cost engineering, Planning, progress reporting and quality management
● Issue weekly and monthly progress and construction reports.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate(s) will be integrated into the management and success of the Ore-Line and of the whole project objective. It is essential that that any individual is capable of establishing credible relations with the client, senior project personnel and site personnel quickly as necessary.
The suitable candidate is likely to have the following attributes:
• Capable and prepared to remain committed to the Transnet project for a minimum of 2 years.
• Candidate should have a Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent ideally with Postgraduate studies in construction management.
• Previous construction/site management ideally within a similar sized or multi-disciplinary engineering project.
• Planning, organization and leadership skills capable of leading a small team.
• Well developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
