What is the Role?

This is entry level engineering position in track engineering in the rail sector. The role is based within the UK largest Rail Project Contractor, working on a major project in London. You do not need to be a track engineer already, but you must be a civil engineer or technician. You need to have an HNC or HND, in civil engineering, or have undertaken the role of a site based civil engineering technician for a while. The role is very progressive, with the goal to expand and develop through a series of increasingly complex positions.

To be able to undertake this role, you must already have some practical civil engineering skills, these include the ability to understand technical drawings, to utilise your Setting out Skills and to undertake Excavation using a variety of methods.

The purpose of the role is to “Effectively Control the Engineering and Setting Out Aspects of Day to Day Construction Activities”
It will involve; “Site setting out, carrying out short term planning, liaising with other site staff and operatives and keeping site records and quality documents (cost, time and safety). The successful candidate will need to work in a safe manner and monitor safety. They will input into Method Statements and Risk Assessments and will be responsible for supervising designated people (Joiner, Engineer and Operatives).”

THE PROJECT
The actual project is the design and construction of a track replacement project on the London Underground. there are two types of track renewals, they are;
· Ballasted track renewals (carried out during 52-hour closures at weekends)
· Concrete track renewals (undertaken at night during engineering hours, which typically limits work to 3-5 hours productivity a night)."
