Mandatory
• Demonstrable competency in an engineering discipline such that is able to assess correctness of constructed and installed works against approved design and requirements
• A qualification which demonstrates suitable technical capability
• Substantial experience working in major construction projects.
• Previous experience in construction of concrete foundations and structures, installation of underground utilities, earthworks, retaining walls.
• Proven experience of supervision and management of contractors to ensure deadlines are met
• Proven ability to analyse construction problems as they arise, and develop solutions to ensure works continue to programme
• Ability to make decisions when required, to ensure work continues to program
• Thorough knowledge of engineering methods of working, quality control, railway structures, plant or equipment and safety requirements relevant to their technical discipline
Proven ability to understand designs and construction plans
• Substantial experience of report compilation and records preparation
Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined management team and to influence others when required
Desirable
• Engineering degree
• Understanding of commercial issues such as budgeting and forecasting and how these affect construction
