Senior Signalling Design Engineer
Key Accountabilities:
1. Manage/undertake the development of signalling remits, requirements/specifications and scope for the Enabling Works, ONW works and interfaces with the central section.
2. Manage all engineering and development activities so that they result in schemes that are affordable, and that meet programme requirements in a safe & environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality.
3. Aim to ensure the Projects' Signalling works are appropriately integrated with other related projects and initiatives.
4. Manage/undertake the development of Signalling options including the selection and development of single options.
5. Act as/liaise with the appropriate Project Engineer(s) during GRIP stages 2-4 .
6. Monitor, assess, evaluate and audit Consultants and Contractors during GRIP stages 2-4.
7. Manage/undertake the preparation of all the Signalling products required for commencement of DD&I.
8. Confirm the Signalling GRIP products are appropriately developed and satisfactory.
9. Monitor all Signalling projects for compliance with RGS and NR Company standards and project control procedures.
10. Undertake reviews of Signalling design and construction activities to monitor the safety and quality of design, and the adequacy of the construction testing and commissioning and related management systems.
Skills required
Essential
• An engineering degree or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification.
• Holds relevant IRSE licences, or capable of achieving within two years
• A demonstrable aptitude for option development.
• Strong evaluation and decision-making skills.
• A working knowledge of rail engineering; relevant successful experience working in the signalling discipline and an adequate understanding of all other related disciplines.
• An ability to work and communicate effectively in a team context.
• An appreciation of all the life cycle stages of rail infrastructure.
• CDM, Auditing and risk assessment competencies.
Desirable
• Chartered Engineer
• Six Sigma Yellow Belt
• Membership of a relevant engineering professional institution.
• Experience in design, installation and maintenance.
• Formal qualifications in risk identification and assessment.
• Yellow book course.
• Experience of working within GRIP
• Substantial signalling experience
