The Maintenance function prevents failures on the infrastructure, ensuring nothing breaks down and the railway is 100% reliable. Infrastructure maintenance used to dispersed among several companies until it was brought back in house in one of the biggest changes the rail industry has seen in decades. In addition to maintaining the track, signalling, electrification equipment, off track operational land and property, the maintenance function manages on-track plant contracts, telecoms maintenance contracts and a large vehicle fleet.
