Job Summary
Atkins Transport Planning covers all aspects of transport planning from policy research and strategic appraisal through to development assessment and traffic engineering.Atkins markets, supports and continues to develop the SATURN suite of highway network modelling software. SATURN has developed over many years to become the world leader in equilibrium-based congested highway assignment modelling. We currently have more than 300 users world-wide with a very strong and active user-base in the UK. In partnership with Dr Dirck van Vliet and the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds, we have been continually developing and improving the software package to meet the needs of our users. Recent developments include stronger links to GIS and sophisticated technical enhancements such as Origin Based Assignment (OBA) and dual core processing to reduce rn times.



Responsibilities
The successful candidate will take overall technical and financial responsibility for the SATURN support and development project, working with a Project Director. They will also need to work closely with our SATURN partners to co-ordinate development, marketing activities and training. The candidate will also need to: Provide technical training and support to SATURN users worldwide; Lead and manage the SATURN development team; Identify, prioritise and implement development priorities in response to SATURN users (both internally and externally); Continually liaise with key stakeholders - including Department for Transport, Highways Agency and Transport for London for example – to ensure that SATURN continues to be the market-leader in equilibrium-based highway modelling in the UK; Run the successful SATURN Annual User Group Meetings; Promote and influence the SATURN best practice in the UK and overseas markets; Working with other Atkins technical specialists, further develop and extend SATURN’s integration with microsimulation and GIS-based software packages and applications.

Requirements
The IndividualApplicants should have strong leadership and managerial qualities. Proven team management and communication skills with the ability to motivate staff and mentor junior staff are essential attributes for this postEssential The following attributes are a necessary requirement for the role: Sufficient and relevant post-graduate experience in transport planning, with a demonstrable track record in: SATURN highway modelling; and programming, preferably in a range of languages but including Salford FTN77/95; Experience in the practical application of SATURN in the UK and overseas; Experience in technical and financial management of projects; Experience in dealing with transport planning clients and customers; and Degree in transport related subject, numeric subject or equivalent.

Desirable

Priority will be given to candidates with (in-depth knowledge of / experience in) several of the following:
