Group Objectives
• To evolve and expand the Sustainability Group, enhancing the company's reputation within this field across the company's key market sectors.
• To become accepted as a focus for sustainable design and the delivery of technically challenging projects, working closely with multi-disciplined teams to provide innovative, value added design solutions.
Qualifications and previous experience
You will have a qualification in environmental design and/or engineering/architectural related course, or a Masters qualification in this subject. You will have at least five years relevant experience working in the field of Sustainability.
You will also have previous experience of environmental design within a commercial organisation.
Typical aspects of experience include:
• Sustainability Strategies for Masterplan designs (including environmental and social regeneration);
• Sustainability Strategies for concept designs of buildings;
• Environmental and Sustainability Assessments, such as BREEAM, Sustainability Appraisals and Environmental Impact Assessments;
• Working knowledge of environmental and sustainability legislation and its applicability to a range of projects;
• Renewable energy calculations;
• Report writing;
• Presentations
Responsibilities & Duties
It is understood that to achieve the objectives outlined above, the responsibilities are wide ranging and fall outside the brief synopsis intended here. However, areas that could be highlighted at this stage include:
General
• Develop the company's sustainable design offering to ensure that it remains at the forefront of the industry, maintaining in depth knowledge of current legislation as well as helping to shape and develop future assessment methods.
• Proactively seek opportunities to implement sustainable design solutions both within the internal and external market.
• Work in close collaboration with clients and other professions, both when confirming the brief and on a day-to-day basis, to the completion of the project.
• Meet project deadlines and budgets.
Technical
• Work closely with urban designers, planners, architects and engineers particularly at the early project stages, continually looking to new technologies, ensuring that the company adds to its reputation for providing broader sustainable design solutions.
• Keep up to date with innovations in environmental and sustainable technologies, issues and regulations, in areas such as biodiversity and ecology, waste management, materials, pollution, environmental quality.
• Have the skill to convert conceptual thinking into developed design and construction documentation within the context of financial and programme parameters.
Management Staff and Planning
• Manage projects.
• Ensure profitability and efficiency by the effective management of the work of the team / group.
• Have the ability to work under pressure whilst monitoring goals and communicating with a team.
• Have an awareness of the total design and delivery process, recognising the need for integrated information delivery and high quality aspirations for the out turn product.
• To assist in the recruitment of high calibre individuals that will take the group forward.
• Team Leader on projects and within group.
