Track Engineers are required to inspect tracks and report on failures to include weekend work. Good knowledge of railway industry practice plus post graduate relevant experience in the design of permanent way alignments and layouts are needed for this role.
Requirements
BEng or HNC/HND in relevant technical discipline is required and familiarity with railway standards is essential. Coupled with a minimum 6 years + experience in a multi disciplinary design office. Experience in the use of track software packages is essential (MX Rail, Microstation, AutoCad, Laser Rail). Knowledge of Hallade Plain Line Design is also essential.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the production of detailed track designs and calculations within an implantation project, track renewal, or track amendments resultant from other Railway asset renewals. Responsible for permanent way design input and draft track calculations to multidisciplinary design teams on medium sized projects. Work contents includes: MX Rail Design, CAD Drawings, assisting in all permanent way design activities, spreadsheet calculations and technical studies. Generation and evaluation of track options, design analysis, report writing, interfacing with other disciplines and project administration. An understanding of all QA with relevance to design activities is essential to the role. You will be responsible for some support to track technicians under training learning ion the job providing guidance, training ad feedback.
The Individual
Extensive experience gained in permanent way design experience in a railway infrastructure company, major consultant, or major contractor, with the majority of this being spent on track design. The ability to produce detailed track design drawings and calculations with the aid of relevant rail software.Working under limited supervision and has an area of responsibility clearly defined and frequently liaises with senior staff. Good knowledge of permanent way design principles, standards, components, and fabrication methods.Knowledge of plain line and switch and crossing inspections advantageous. Familiar in providing project documentation to Client requirements.
