What is the Role?
Permanent Way Site Engineer
The core duties of this role is to manage the day to day function of the construction activities, this includes a number of duties listed below by the client.;
“Site setting out.
- Carrying out short term planning.
- Liaison with other site staff and operatives.
- Keeping site records and quality documents (cost, time and safety)
- Working in a safe manner and monitoring safety. - Input into Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
- Supervision of designated people (Joiners, Engineers and Operatives).
- Control and determine quantities of materials against plan.
- Interpret technical drawings.
- Quality control of materials”
The Project
This position is on a major multidisciplined rail civil engineering project. It involves the building of a new rail line, and it involves the disciplines of track, signalling, telecommunications and electrification.
In addition there are “major civil engineering works including two large new bridges, new stations and a new depot.”
This is a two Phrase project, with construction already started, the contract value is in excess of £300 million, consequently it is an exciting high profile project.

This organisation is a specialist rail contractor, with multiple UK Offices. They are actively developing their International presence, and have undertaken a number of international projects, either as a Joint Venture or in their own right. Within the domestic market they have a reputation for delivering major multidisciplinary projects.

Established technical Officers, with P Way experience.
What Skills do I need?
You must have gained an appreciation of the following skills, again as listed by our client.
“Understanding technical drawings.
- Experience of a contracting environment.
- Setting out skills.
- Excavation methods.
- Understanding of material sampling and testing specifications”
