My client has a century-long history of successful development in the wide sphere of railway engineering and undertakes a wide variety of uni and multi-functional rail projects across the UK. They are currently recruiting for a Civil Engineer, based in Wimbledon, South West London.
Purpose of job
Provide technical direction, as professional head of Civil Engineering, to the Company so that all contractual commitments to customers are delivered in a safe, high quality and commercially viable manner.
Receive all Civil Engineering standards for the Company, enhance them to meet project requirements as necessary, set standards where need identified and ensure all necessary standards are promulgated and understood throughout the Company.
Set levels of compliance to Civil Engineering standards in conjunction with the customers, undertake technical audits to ensure these levels are achieved within the safety and financial objectives of the business
Key accountabilities
• Establish Company Civil Engineering technical safety performance objectives as defined by standards or required in projects and regional businesses and monitor compliance.
• Assist with the civil engineering element of new bid work as requested.
• Ensure technical standards are set, briefed and work with Project Managers to implement in all relevant projects.
• Agree Civil Engineering financial objectives with the Head of Engineering and ensure they are achieved.
• Ensure ISO9000 accreditation is achieved and retained within Company Civil Engineering activities.
• Represent the Company's Civil Engineering interest within the profession and the industry, both in Britain and elsewhere.
• Oversee the professional training and development of Civil Engineering staff and review development programmes.
• Agree competence standards for relevant works and ensure systems are in place such that staff with correct competence levels are employed.
• Lead Civil Engineering Technical Audit process including supplier accreditation.
• Determining and applying correct balance between technical safety and reliability objectives and ensuring this balance is maintained within the Project Civil Engineering activities
• Reviewing Civil Engineering technical safety performance
• Identifying and developing technical improvements for enhancing business performance
• Provision or procurement of Civil Engineering design services where required internally or under contractual commitments
• Undertaking strategic overview of Civil Engineering opportunities and achievement for input into the Business Plan.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
• Engineering degree and Chartered Civil Engineer with thorough knowledge of infrastructure design, construction, operation and maintenance. Experience of business management at infrastructure level and the management of change.
