JOB PROFILE
A unique career opportunity working on one of the largest multi-million pound rail and port expansion programme of projects in the world; the scope of the entire programme encompasses engineering, procurement, project management and construction management amongst many others. The objective of this programme of projects is to assist in the enhancement of South Africa’s GDP and its capability to expand and develop its domestic and international trade presence.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The role is responsible for the management and direction of engineering team(s) to ensure that the programme’s requirements for quality, and managing the budgets (capital and services costs) and schedule are adhered to. They will therefore be integral within the project’s dynamics and delivery.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Maintain an ongoing working relationship with lead engineers, the Area Managers, and with the procurement, controls and construction team members.
• Responsibility and commensurate authority to plan and direct, subject to the approval of the Engineering Manager, the mobilisation and demobilisation of personnel to ensure availability of suitably qualified engineers and technicians.
• Measure the progress of the engineering work packages, to ensure that the budgets and schedules are being met and, if necessary take corrective action.
• Ensure that the quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with the Project Procedures and the quality assurance plan.
• Maintain a close working relationship with the Area Managers to ensure direct, rapid and efficient communications on all technical aspects of the project.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate will be highly integrated into the management and success of the programme of projects and of the whole programme function. It is essential that that any individual is capable of establishing credible relations with the client and senior project management.
• Ideally the candidate will have experience of working in South Africa with a strong understanding of the numerous national cultures.
• A willingness and capability to remain on this project for >2 years.
• The candidate should have an Engineering Degree (or equivalent) and have several years experienced professional engineering qualifications.
• Experience in {discipline} design/consultancy ideally within a similar large engineering or multi-disciplinary project will be beneficial to any applicant.
• An understanding and appreciated of the complexities of a large multi-disciplinary project and how this can/will impact engineering design functions.
• A personal drive to successfully conclude project specifics.
• Capability to report and produce status reviews for senior colleagues with experience.
